چکیده

Previous studies have shown that epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) contributes to the presence of atrial fibrillation (AF), possibly due fatty infiltration and/or release cytokines from EAT. Conversely, it remains unclear whether sinus rhythm maintenance after catheter ablation (CA) provide favorable effects on EAT volume, quality and left (LA) (EAT LA can be estimated attenuation measured by CT) (figure). This study aimed determine changes in volume quality, infiltration, before CA. Total 20 patients (62± 10 years, 16 males, 4 persistent AF) who had undergone The multidetector CT was performed within 1 week year ablation. as defined -50 -200 Hounsfield units (HU). We also evaluated (around whole heart LA), wall (in roof posterior). automatically 3D workstation. at 3 sites per segment, average values calculated for each site, these were used analysis. All no recurrence decreased significantly (whole EAT: 108±46 ml 93±35 ml; P=0.022, LA-EAT: 30± 14 23±12 P=0.002). There significant difference between -92±3 HU -92±4 HU; P=0.94, -90±5 -90±4 P=0.93). did not change either (LA roof: 23±7 24±10 P=0.35, posterior: 34±7 30±8 P=0.35). rhythm, but unchanged over time, suggesting is a consequence AF, substrate persists despite maintenance.

Epicardial Adipose Tissue Thickness and Ablation Outcome of Atrial Fibrillation

OBJECTIVES Epicardial fat was closely related to atrial fibrillation (AF). Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) has been proposed to be a convenient imaging tool in assessing epicardial adipose tissue (EAT). The goal of the present study was to investigate whether the EAT thickness measured on TTE was a useful parameter in predicting procedural outcomes of AF ablations. METHODS AND RESULTS A ...

Epicardial adipose tissue and atrial fibrillation.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most frequent cardiac arrhythmia in clinical practice. AF is often associated with profound functional and structural alterations of the atrial myocardium that compose its substrate. Recently, a relationship between the thickness of epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) and the incidence and severity of AF has been reported. Adipose tissue is a biologically active orga...

Left atrial epicardial adiposity and atrial fibrillation.

BACKGROUND Atrial fibrillation (AF) has been linked to inflammatory factors and obesity. Epicardial fat is a source of several inflammatory mediators related to the development of coronary artery disease. We hypothesized that periatrial fat may have a similar role in the development of AF. METHODS AND RESULTS Left atrium (LA) epicardial fat pad thickness was measured in consecutive cardiac CT...
